What
is Operation
Christmas Child?
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate
situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes and
the Good
News of God’s love. This program of Samaritan’s Purse provides an
opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on
missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus
Christ, God’s greatest gift. Along with shoebox gifts, millions of
children are given Gospel booklets in their own language.
2011
will be our church's seventh year to serve as a collection site for
Operation Christmas Child.

Have no time to pack
shoeboxes? Bring shoebox items to church and leave them
under the OCC table in Fellowship Hall. On Wednesday evening, Nov
16, the youth will pack the shoeboxes.

How
to pack a shoebox:
- Start with an empty shoe box (standard size, please) or a similar
sized
plastic
container. You can wrap the box (lid separately so the box can be
opened), but wrapping is not required. Or consider lining clear
containers with a bandanna to ensure the surprise of the gift, plus
they have the bandanna! Most important, pray for
the child who will receive your gift.
- Boy or
Girl? Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a
girl, and the child's age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Use the
appropriate boy/girl label from the OCC website. Mark the correct
age category on the label, and tape the label to the top of your
box.
- Fill with gifts. Remember to remove
all items from their
packaging. You may use this
list for suggestions.
- Include
your donation. Please donate $7 or more for each shoebox
you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs. Place
your check made out to Samaritan's Purse in an envelope, place inside
your box on top of the gifts. If preparing multiple boxes, you
may use one check. You can also make your donation online here.
(If you use online donation, you will have an "EZ donation" label to
print for your shoebox).
- Drop off your box. Place a
rubber band around each closed box and
drop off at the Collection Center nearest you. If First Pres,
Olathe, will not work best, click
here for more locations.
